If you’re looking for a wedding venue that feels equal parts Southern romance, historical charm, and jaw-dropping beauty — Middleton Place in Charleston, South Carolina may just check every box (and then some). Between the moss-draped oaks, serene water views, and secret garden vibes, this place isn’t just a stunning wedding venue — it’s a videographer’s dream playground.
At Paros Films, we’ve had the chance to film weddings at Middleton Place and, spoiler alert: we’re already itching to go back. Here’s why this Low country gem has our full attention — and our cameras.
Ceremonies That Steal the Show
So far, we’ve filmed ceremonies at one standout spot: the Octagonal Garden — and it’s as dreamy as it sounds. This open-air garden is anchored by a magnificent oak tree that overlooks a peaceful marsh backdrop. It’s quiet, romantic, and honestly, the kind of place you feel lucky to even stand in.
Middleton Place also offers a few more ceremony spots that are just as gorgeous (and that we’re very excited to film in the future). One is Middleton Oak, another open-air space surrounded by lush greenery and that classic Charleston charm. And then there’s the Parterre & Butterfly Lakes, which may be one of the prettiest hidden gems on the entire property. Terraced lawns, reflective pools, and a wide view of the Ashley River in the distance? Yes, please.
Receptions with a View
When it comes to receptions, Middleton Place has options — and every one of them brings something different to the table. We’ve filmed inside the Pavilion, where glass walls let in natural light and showcase incredible views of the gardens and towering oak trees. The space feels clean, modern, and still fully immersed in the landscape around it.
We’ve also captured an outdoor reception under a tent with the Pavilion as a backdrop, and honestly? It was pure magic. Think twinkle lights, dancing under the stars, and the kind of ambiance that translates perfectly on film.
Our Favorite Filming Spots (Because We Have a Few)
With so many gorgeous scenes to choose from, narrowing down our favorite videography locations is tough — but here are a few that always stand out:
- The Crane Pool: With its serene water and a hillside of azaleas, this spot looks like it was plucked straight out of a Thomas Kinkade painting. (Seriously.)
- Butterfly Lake Overlook: This is the place for sunset shots. It offers wide open sky, shimmering water, and a view of the Ashley River that’s hard to beat.
- The Carriage House: Rustic charm? Check. Classic Charleston vibes? Check. It’s a go-to spot for those romantic, storybook-style moments.
Why Couples (and Videographers) Love Middleton Place
There’s a reason couples choose Middleton Place over and over again — and why we’re always thrilled to film there. From the moss-covered live oaks to the glamorous-rustic architecture, there’s no shortage of stunning backdrops. Whether you’re walking through the Secret Garden, saying vows beside a marsh, or dancing the night away by the Pavilion, every inch of this venue is ready for its close-up.
The real challenge? Deciding which locations not to use. There are just that many picture-perfect options.
